In a cafe at a railway station, housewife Laura Jesson meets doctor Alec Harvey. Although they are already married, they gradually fall in love with each other.
They continue to meet every Thursday on the small cafe, although they know that their love is impossible.
This simple storyline belies what is widely considered to be one of the finest movies ever made. Beautifully written by Coward, impeccably directed by Lean - better known laterly for his epics, with a wonderful, unassuming cast and music by Rachmaninov, Brief Encounter is required watching for all who truly love movies.
